Mount Vesuvius is a particularly interesting volcano both for its history and frequency of eruptions. It is situated slightly inland from the coast of the Gulf of Naples and about 10km east of capoluogo campano.
Vesuvius is a glance of rare beauty in the panorama of the gulf, especially when viewed from the sea with the city in the background.
The walls on the side of the cone appear to peak. The whole section is then littered with spikes and dykes of dark volcanic rock. On colder days, vapor condensation makes fumaroles found in many parts of the inner wall of the crater visible.
Proceeding along the rim of the crater, looking towards the sea you can take the full extent of the southern part of the volcano and on days of good visibility, the entire Gulf of Naples from Sorrento and Capri.
Vesuvius is an open air museum because it hosts 10 gigantic sculptures. The most permanent show takes the name of Creator Vesevo.
From the B & B Villa Pollio, it is simple to reach Vesuvius for an enthusiastic visit: 200 metres from our villa is the local train, the Circumsuviana. Take the Naples line stopping at Ercolano Scavi. In the piazza outside the station, operates a bus service dedicated to transporting tourists to Vesuvius.
